Analog two-way radios (also known as traditional two-way radios) are wireless voice transmission devices based on analog communication technology; they modulate radio frequency signals using frequency modulation (FM) or amplitude modulation (AM) techniques and are primarily utilized in both professional and civilian sectors-such as public safety, logistics and transportation, and construction.
Their hardware architecture comprises transmission, reception, and power control modules. The transmission section employs a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) and a Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) to generate the RF carrier signal, while the reception section processes signals using double-conversion superheterodyne technology and utilizes CTCSS/DTCSS encoding to facilitate selective communication.
Since 2014, regulatory policies have driven the gradual phasing out of analog two-way radios within government bodies and specialized industry agencies, shifting their application toward scenarios characterized by high real-time requirements and relatively simple functional needs.
