A major advantage of PoC is that it not only provides rapid PTT services but also offers the one-to-many group calling capabilities characteristic of PMR systems-a feature typically absent from standard mobile cellular networks. Unlike PMR networks, which are constrained by limited channel capacity, PoC platforms support the creation of an unlimited number of virtual channels and call groups, including dynamic call groups. Furthermore, the platform supports dispatch services-such as real-time GPS positioning, tracking, and monitoring-as well as other standard PMR functionalities, such as late entry into group calls and the remote stunning or killing of devices.
The platform also delivers other common PMR services, such as lone worker monitoring and emergency alerting, while offering comprehensive call recording, logging, and playback capabilities. Leveraging this platform, PoC devices can also incorporate traditional PDA functionalities, such as workflow management, job ticketing, item scanning, and proof-of-delivery services. Additionally, some PoC platforms facilitate the integration of PoC services with existing PMR systems via gateways, thereby creating a unified PMR/cellular network environment. This effectively extends the coverage area of the PMR network, enabling personnel located outside the PMR network's range-or those without dedicated PMR terminals-to communicate seamlessly with users utilizing PTT-enabled cellular devices.
